Best Places To Go Swimming Near Devonshire
August 3, 2023   |   Jillian Letourneau

As the warm months continue, there’s nothing quite like taking a refreshing dip in the water. Around Devonshire, there are numerous swimming spots to explore. From pristine beaches to tranquil ponds and picturesque lakes, our city and its surrounding areas offer a variety of options for water enthusiasts, especially during peak heat in July. Here are our favorite spots:

Revere Beach

Located just a few miles north of Devonshire, Revere Beach is a popular destination for sun-seekers and swimmers alike. This historic beach, stretching over three miles long, boasts soft sands and stunning ocean views.

With its convenient accessibility and facilities, Revere Beach attracts thousands of visitors each year. It offers ample parking, restrooms, picnic areas, and lifeguards on duty during the summer months. Whether you’re looking to take a leisurely swim, bask in the sun, or indulge in beachside activities, Revere Beach has a little something for everyone.

Walden Pond

Pretend like you didn’t read the boring book in high school. Once you visit the picturesque glacial kettle hole lake, you’ll understand why author Henry David Thoreau wrote a book about it.

For those seeking a more serene and natural swimming experience, Walden Pond offers crystal-clear waters surrounded by lush forests, creating a tranquil oasis for swimmers. The beach area provides a peaceful setting for sunbathing and picnicking. Visitors can also explore the hiking trails, go fishing, or simply immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

Crane Beach

Situated in Ipswich, approximately an hour’s drive from Devonshire, Crane Beach is a stunning coastal wonderland. It is part of the Crane Estate, a property managed by The Trustees of Reservations.

With its expansive shoreline, dunes, and salt marshes, Crane Beach offers a diverse and breathtaking landscape. The beach is known for its soft sand and clear waters, making it an ideal spot for swimming and beach-combing. Visitors can also enjoy hiking trails, birdwatching, and exploring the beautiful dune ecosystem.

Nantasket Beach

Located in nearby Hull, Nantasket Beach is a beloved seaside destination for locals and tourists alike. Spanning three miles along the Massachusetts Bay, this sandy beach offers stunning views and a vibrant atmosphere.

The shore has fine, light gray sand, but come early; it’s one of the busiest beaches in our city.
