What to Do on Black Friday in Boston Other Than Shop

Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year. For most of us, this is the official start of the holiday season. Sure, there are some great deals to be found, but things can get a little hectic. If you don’t feel up to it this year, why not do something else instead? Here are some of our favorite choices:

Go on a Pub Crawl

Instead of going shopping on Black Friday – try going on a Pub Crawl instead! Boston Crawling is running one on Black Friday that not only takes you into some of the best taverns in Boston, it also gives you an overview of the city’s history relative to its drinking culture. Places you will visit include the oldest tavern in the United States, the tavern where the Patriots planned the Boston Tea Party, and more. Most of the bars are located along Boston’s historic Freedom Trail.

Watch a Holiday Movie

Do you just want to stay home this Black Friday? This is the perfect time to watch some of your favorite holiday movies! If you don’t want to be alone, you can always invite a few people over. They can help you eat your Thanksgiving leftovers! You can even multitask and do some holiday shopping online from the comfort of your couch while you watch.

Decorate Your Apartment

Black Friday is the perfect day to get your apartment in the holiday spirit! Even if it’s a little too early to put up your holiday tree, you can still put out some of your favorite decorations. If you don’t want to decorate by yourself, you can always host an impromptu decorating party. Serve eggnog and mulled wine, as well as a tasty spread of holiday treats, and your friends will be eager to join you! This is also a good time to decorate for holidays such as Kwanzaa and Hanukah.

Attend Elf the Musical

Looking for a unique holiday performance to attend? Elf the Musical is at the Wang Center from November 17 – December 6. On Black Friday, which is on November 27 this year, there are actually two performances – a matinee at 2 PM and an evening performance at 7 PM. This means that there’s a show that will fit your schedule!

Go to the Festival of Lights

Stone Zoo’s “Zoo Lights” festival opens on Black Friday, November 27 at 5 PM. This is the perfect activity for those who want to avoid the Black Friday crowds. Even though this display will be running throughout the holiday season, Black Friday is a great day to enjoy it. Sip some hot chocolate while observing the animals at the zoo and enjoying the holiday lights. If shopping is the last thing you want to do on Black Friday, it’s best to avoid all of Boston’s major shopping hubs, such as Faneuil Hall, the Prudential Center, and Downtown Crossing. Try one of these activities instead!
