What to Do in Boston’s North End
Boston is a rich cultural city that has a strong history of immigration. People came from all over the world, including places in Europe such as Italy. Many of these Italian immigrants settled into a neighborhood referred to as the North End. Although the neighborhood has changed a lot since its early days, the Italian influence is still strong. It is also only about a ten-minute walk from the Devonshire Apartments, which means that it is convenient to spend time here. Here’s a look at what you can do during your time in the North End:
Take in the Rich History
Before the Italians came to Boston, the city’s history was well underway. Parts of the North End have roots in the early days of the city’s history, including the Revolutionary War. Areas of the North End are part of the historic Freedom Trail, such as The Paul Revere House
and the Old North Church
. Each of these places offers guided tours and they also have displays with artifacts and information.
Eat Authentic Italian Food
One thing that hasn’t changed about the neighborhood is that there are still plenty of Italian restaurants to enjoy. Whether you want pizza at a pizzeria like Regina Pizzeria
, or a big Italian meal at a restaurant like Café Florentine
, there is something for you. You can even enjoy Italian inspired seafood dishes at The Daily Catch
! Some of the restaurants get busy during peak dining hours, so you’ll want to make a reservation.
Enjoy the Nightlife
The North End also has a few bars and lounges, especially in the area over by the waterfront. One of the most popular lounges in the area is The Living Room
on Atlantic Avenue, which features an interior that is comfortably decorated with couches and coffee tables. They have an extensive cocktail list and they also serve food. Other places to grab a drink include Vito’s Tavern
, which is located on Salem Street and the Boston Sail Loft
, which is on Atlantic Avenue.
Smoke a Cigar
If you’re looking for a truly unique experience, consider heading to Stanza dei Sigari
, a classic cigar lounge located on Hanover Street. Although they do serve alcohol here, they are best known as a cigar parlor that people from all over the world flock to. They are known for their excellent selection of cigars, whisky, port, scotch, and other fine liquors.
Another great thing to do in the North End is go shopping. The whole neighborhood is packed with ethnic markets, bakeries, boutiques, and even tourist shops. You can head to the North End just to look inside the stores or you can easily browse through a few of them before or after a nice meal.
The North End in Boston is one those neighborhoods you will spend plenty of time in while living in the Devonshire Apartments!
