Valentine’s Day Date Night Ideas for Staying In

There are plenty of happenings going on in and around Boston this Valentine’s Day, but if you would prefer to stay indoors on next Saturday night then we’ve got some great ideas perfect for setting the mood right in your own apartment!

Play a game.

Grab your favorite board game, a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine and you’ve got everything you need for a great Valentine’s night in! You can set the stakes a little higher than usual and have the loser give the winner a back rub, serve breakfast in bed on Sunday or buy the winner a pint of their favorite ice cream! Get your favorite playlist on Pandora going and what else do you need?

Have an indoor picnic.

We’re all a little weary of the cold and dark, so pretend spring is here with an indoor picnic! Throw down that comfy blanket and bust out the fancy tableware. If you’ve got red plates from your Christmas party they can pull double duty! Since this is Valentine’s Day why not splurge and skip the chicken salad for extra fancy snacks like salty prosciutto, a hunk of gourmet Gouda and some delicious Greek olives. Grab your favorite bottle of wine or some sparkling soda to top it off!

Rent a romantic movie.

NetFlix. Amazon Prime. Hulu. RedBox–there is no shortage of movie rental options out there so grab a classic like Casablanca (the #1 romantic movie on Rotten Tomatoes), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind if you like romance with a twist or Silver Linings Playbook for a new romantic comedy. Pop some popcorn or open your favorite bag of movie theater candy and snuggle up on the couch for a quiet night in.

Cook dinner together.

If you prefer eating in to dining out, make the act of cooking part of your date night in! Find a new recipe you both want to try and get cooking together. It can be something sweet and simple (maybe just perfect those sugar cookies) or maybe you go all out and roast a rack of lamb! Don’t worry so much about the final product (you can always order takeout if you burn dinner). The real point is to spend time together creating something new.

Create a bucket list.

Sit down and map out a couple’s bucket list for the two of you! Maybe there is a really cool restaurant here in town you want to try (check back during Boston restaurant week!). Or is there a dream vacation the two of you have been dying to take? Do you want to take a ballroom dancing class? Learn to sail? Kiss on top of the Eiffel Tower? Go ahead and dream big, it is a bucket list after all. Print your list and tack it above your desk or on the fridge and cross them off as you go!
