The warm weather is finally here and we need to enjoy it while we can! During the summer, Boston certainly comes alive. The flowers are in bloom, the sun is shining, and the cold of the winter is long behind us. Here are some ways that you can enjoy the city during the summer months:

Ride the Swan Boats,

During the winter, the delicate swan boats, which are located in the Public Garden, are retired into storage. They return during the warmer months, which means that you only have a small window of time to enjoy them. Head to the Public Garden to enjoy the blooming flowers, and while you’re at it, be sure to take at least one ride this summer.

Attend the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular

The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is one of the most popular Independence Day events in the United States. The event starts with a free concert given by the Boston Pops, where Keith Lockhart conducts the orchestra while they play a variety of patriotic hits. The evening concludes with a spectacular firework display that is done to the 1812 Overture, which was composed by Tchaikovsky.

Visit the Boston Harbor Islands

Boston Harbor has several islands that are worth exploring for different reasons. Georges Island, for example, is home to Fort Warren, which dates back to the Civil War. Spectacle Island is known for its beaches and there is even a lifeguard. Other islands to explore include Peddocks Island, which is known for being a great camping spot, and Lovells Island, which is great for camping and also has a beach. You can access these islands by ferry from Long Wharf.

Shop at a Farmers Market

In late spring and early summer, many of the city’s farmers markets are open for business. The Boston Public Market is open all year long and not only has fresh produce, but also artisanal goods like local cheese and wine. Other markets to explore include the Copley Square Farmers Market, the South End Open Market, the Central Square Farmers Market, and the Dewey Square Farmers Market. As crops are ready locally, the markets will have them in stock.

Visit Some Historical Landmarks

Another great thing to do in the summer is to visit the historic Freedom Trail. The Devonshire Apartments is right on the freedom trail, and many of the landmarks on the trail, such as the Old State House, the site of the Boston Massacre, and Old Corner Bookstore are an easy walk from the building. This is the perfect time to explore everything on the trail, especially if the weather is nice. You can either complete the trail all at once or break it up over the course of several days. Boston is filled with life in the summer, and these activities are definitely part of the fun!
