5 Ways to Get Healthy in Boston This Fall
Fall is a great time to get in shape in Boston! The weather is perfect, the fall foliage is at its peak, and the harvest is still going strong. Here are some things you can do this autumn to help you get healthy and stay that way:
Participate in a Race
Participating in a road race, whether you decide to walk or run, will help you get healthy this fall. Not only that, but these races are also fun, especially if you do them with people you know. In the month of October, there are two fairly well known events to participate in, the 33rd Annual Firefighters’ Road Race
and the Boston Common Costume Dash
. If you actually train for these events, you’ll burn even more calories!
Enjoy the Leaves
One of the best ways to get healthy this time of year is to get out and enjoy the gorgeous leaves. There are plenty of places in the city to glimpse the fall foliage
. Walking through the parks and streets is not only a great way to look at the leaves, but it can also be great exercise! If you don’t have time for a walk, try taking the long way home. This will not only give you a chance to view some of the foliage, it will also help you burn some extra calories.
Eat Treats in Moderation
With holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving approaching, there will be no shortage of treats in the house. While avoiding these treats isn’t realistic, eating them in moderation can help you save calories while also not making you feel deprived. Save eating these treats for special occasions and avoid eating them on a daily basis.
Shop at Farmer’s Markets
The harvest is winding down, but there are still plenty of delicious finds at Boston’s Farmers’ Markets! The market at Copley Square
, for example, goes from 11 AM to 6 PM on Tuesdays and Fridays up until November 24. The Boston Public Market
is another choice and is open all year. These markets usually source their produce from local farms and are devoted to providing you with the most delicious and freshest foods.
Take a Fitness Class
Going to the gym is another great way to help you get healthy this fall. Now that the weather is a little colder and the days are a lot shorter, it can be difficult to find the time to go outside. Now is the perfect time to make visiting the gym a regular habit. You don’t even need to go far in order to join the gym. You can go to the Devonshire Sky Club, which is located at the top of our building. Whether you visit the gym, take one of our classes, swim in the pool, or take a private yoga class, there is something here to help you get healthy and in shape.
