How to Get Organized for Your Move
With Boston’s traditional move-in day fast approaching, it’s important to start getting organized now! On September 1, the city will be crammed with people who all have the same goal– to move in to their apartments. If you’re amongst them, it doesn’t have to be stressful! With some careful planning, you can have a calm and relaxing experience while moving into your new place at the Devonshire! Here are some helpful tips:
Take Inventory of Your Items
While you’re packing up all your items, taking inventory can be helpful because it will enable you to place the boxes in the correct rooms in your new place. This can make the process of unpacking much easier. You can also take things a step further by keeping a detailed record on a separate piece of paper. Assign each box a number, indicate which room it came from, and then check the inventory sheet for more information.
Pack the Truck Carefully
If you’re renting a moving truck and doing all the heavy lifting yourself, the way you pack the truck can make a big difference! When you arrive at your new place, the first thing you’ll want to do is arrange all your furniture. Then, place all the relevant boxes in each room so that you can unpack them. Because you’ll want to unload the furniture first, make sure it’s in the front of the truck! If you need to balance the load a little better, you can put the boxes in the front and on the sides of the truck and place the furniture in the middle. Both of these loading options will help make unloading the truck a lot more efficient.
Hire a Moving Company
Moving to a new city can be difficult but to eliminate much of the frustration, hiring a professional moving company can help considerably. Some companies will even pack all your belongings, take an inventory record, and unpack all your boxes once you get to your new home! Many companies even have extra security features for high-value items such as electronics, antiques, and jewelry. To make things even easier, you can make sure the company is familiar with the logistics of moving to Downtown Boston!
Set Aside Essential Belongings
Before you even start packing up your household for your move, you’ll want to set aside all your essentials. There’s nothing worse than realizing that the movers packed your cell phone into one of the boxes without thinking! You’ll want to make sure that your purse, wallet, keys and cell phone are separated from the items that you need to pack. You’ll also want to pack a suitcase with enough clothing and toiletries to last at least a week. When you arrive at your new place, you might be too tired to start unpacking right away!
