The Best Places to View Holiday Lights Near Boston

admin on November 29, 2016 - 4:41 pm in Around Town
The holiday season is upon us, which means that it’s time to enjoy all the festive things that the city of Boston has to offer! Each year, places throughout the city and the surrounding area offer plenty of holiday-related things to do. One of the top activities is to view the holiday lights that are on display for most of the holiday season. Here’s a glimpse at some of the best places to view the lights:

Illuminations Tour – Somerville

One of the most endearing things about the Illuminations Tour in Somerville is that it focuses on the holiday decorations and light displays made by the residents of Somerville. Those who live in the homes create each display, and they use their creativity and imaginations to make their decorations a festive part of the tour. Although you can certainly walk or drive through Somerville yourself to take a look, it’s much more fun booking a spot on one of the trolley tours. Tickets go on sale on December 4th.

Blink! – Faneuil Hall

Although the Blink light display at Faneuil Hall is relatively new on the scene (it is only in its fourth year), it has quickly become a favorite holiday activity for those in Boston and the surrounding area. This display incorporates both light and sound and runs on a regular schedule throughout the holidays. The show involves two places in Faneuil Hall – Market Tree Center and South Market. Starting at 4:30 PM, the show will run every hour on the half hour in Market Tree Center. In South Market, the show begins at 5 PM and will run every hour on the hour.

ZooLights – Stone Zoo

Are you looking for a unique way to experience the Stone Zoo in Stoneham? If so, then the ZooLights holiday lights display is the place to be! During this event, the zoo itself is transformed into what the official website for the event calls a “winter wonderland.” View the lights decorating the trees on the pathways throughout the zoo, and be sure to stop in on the Yukon Creek where the bald eagles, Canadian lynx, and reindeer reside to view the holiday decorations there.

Winter Lights – Rose Kennedy Greenway

Unlike some of the other light displays that can be found in the Boston area, these decorations stay up throughout the winter. According to the website, the goal of the decorations on the Rose Kennedy Greenway is to, “bring warmth and cheer to The Greenway during the darkest part of the year.” Highlights include Bliss Lights hanging from the pergola in the North End Parks, Globe Lights in the Wharf District Parks, and blue candlestick lights at Dewey Square. The city of Boston and the surrounding area come alive during this time of year. These holiday light displays will definitely put you in the mood to celebrate!
